Spied: Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio Getaway single cab and dual cab caught testing

OVERDRIVE reader Kunal Pai recently caught the new Mahindra Scorpio Getaway testing in Maharashtra. From the images, it's clear that the front of the vehicle is the same as the current-gen Scorpio, right from the headlights to the grille and bumper. From the rear door onwards, everything is new. The rear door is smaller while the wheelbase is probably longer than the Scorpio's. The Mahindra Scorpio Getaway will also get leaf springs at the rear like most pick-up trucks, to handle heavy loads. The pick-up bay looks similar to the old-gen Scorpio's, and so do the five-spoke alloy wheels. However, we expect the final version to get the newer wheels seen on the Scorpio.

We also managed to get images of a single-cab Mahindra Scorpio Getaway in camouflage. However, from the registration plate, it looks like it was caught testing in Australia. From these images, we can tell that the tail lights are the same as the ones on the previous-generation Mahindra Scorpio Getaway. If you look closely, you can also see that the rear suspension uses leaf springs. However, it is unlikely that Mahindra will bring this single-cab version to India since in most states, they have to be registered as commercial vehicles.

With respect to the powertrain, the new Mahindra Scorpio Getaway is expected to get the same 2.2-litre mHawk turbo-diesel engine from the standard Scorpio, which produces 120PS and 280Nm. While it will come with a 5-speed manual transmission, we're not sure if it will have AWD or rear-wheel drive with a shift-on-the-fly 4X4 system. We're also unsure if the Mahindra Scorpio Getaway will be offered with the 75PS/200Nm 2.5-litre turbo-diesel engine.

When it does make it to production, it will take on the likes of the Tata Xenon XT, but more importantly, the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross.
