Toyota Innova Hycross vs Rivals: Engine, Transmission, and Performance

To begin with, the Toyota Innova Hycross comes with a new 2.0-litre, inline-four petrol engine linked to Toyota's fifth-gen strong-hybrid electric system. The engine produces 152PS/188NM, while the electric motor makes 113PS/206Nm. The combined power output is rated at 186PS. This hybrid powertrain is paired with an e-CVT automatic transmission. On the other hand, the Innova Hycross also gets a non-hybrid 2.0-litre, four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine generating 174PS and 205Nm of torque. The Innova Crysta, which will soon be re-launched, will be powered by the 2.4-litre diesel motor that makes 150PS and 343Nm of torque.

While the Innova Hycross has ditched the diesel engine, its rival, the Kia Carnival still comes with a 2.0-litre, inline-four, turbocharged diesel motor that produces 200PS and 440Nm of torque. This engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Whereas, the Maruti Suzuki XL6 gets a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine that makes 103PS and 136.8Nm of torque. This engine comes mated to either a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission.

The Kia Carens is the only rival to offer a choice of three powertrain options. There is a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine making 140PS and 242Nm of torque and a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol unit that produces 115PS and 144Nm of torque. Unlike the Innova Hycross and XL6, the Carens is powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine that generates 115PS and 250Nm of torque. Transmission options include a six-speed manual, seven-speed DCT, and six-speed torque converter.
