Spec Comparo: Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled vs Triumph Street Scrambler
Ducati has introduced its entire range of Scrambler motorcycles in India and the prices start from Rs 7.89 lakh ex-showroom pan India. One of the motorcycles in the Scrambler range is the Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled, which has been priced at Rs 9.93 lakh, which happens to be the most premium in this range of Scrambler. The Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled competes against the 2019 Triumph Street Scrambler that was launched in February 2019 for the price of Rs 8.60 lakh ex-showroom.
Design and Styling
The Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled gets a high stance and relatively tall and wider handlebars. Contrastingly, the Street Scrambler appears to be low slung motorcycle. Up front the Desert Sled sports a flying mudguard. The chassis frame of the Street Scrambler is painted in black, however, the Desert Sled gets the one in red highlights to make it stand out. The exhaust on the Street Scrambler is a high mounted side slung unit, whereas, the exhaust on the Desert Sled is a low mounted unit. Both the motorcycles have a dual barrel exhaust.
Engine and Drivetrain
The Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled uses an 803cc L-twin. an air-cooled engine that churns out up to 73PS at 8,250rpm and torque 67Nm at 5,750rpm. The Triumph Street Scrambler, on the other hand, gets a parallel twin engine that produces 65PS at 7,400rpm and peak torque of 80Nm which is available from 3,200rpm.
Cycle parts
Both the motorcycle have dedicated cycle parts for mild-off-road ridings - such as long travel suspension, spoke wire wheels shod with dual purpose tyres. The suspension travel on the Ducati Desert Sled is upto 200mm and is fully adjustable. The Ducati also boasts a 238mm ground clearance. The Triumph Street Scrambler has 140mm suspension travel with 41 mm front cartridge forks. The front brakes on the British motorcycle here are Brembo four-piston units with 310mm disc and the rear brakes have a 255mm rotor with Nissin callipers. The Ducati Desert Sled gets a 330mm disc in the front and a 245mm disc at the rear.
Features
The Triumph Street Scrambler gets switchable traction control and three riding modes. The Ducati Desert Sled gets cornering ABS for the model year 2019. Both the motorcycles get LCD display and Ducati has included the gear position indicator and a digital fuel gauge for the 2019 mode year.
