Official: BMW G 310 R and G 310 GS bookings have NOT begun in India

We have official confirmation from BMW Motorrad India that bookings for the G 310 R and G 310 GS have not begun. False news about commencement of bookings has been doing the rounds on the interweb since April 18, 2018, misleading potential customers. We also spoke to a couple of BMW Motorrad dealers who have denied accepting any bookings for the G 310 R and G 310 GS.

BMW India has told OVERDRIVE that it will officially announce the opening of bookings when it decides on a date.

Earlier this year, we spoke to BMW Motorrad at Auto Expo 2018 and were told that the company will launch the G 310 R and G 310 GS in India in July-August 2018.

The BMW G 310 R and the G 310 GS are highly anticipated products and BMW is expected to price these motorcycles at a competitive price point. Both motorcycles are powered by a 313cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that develops 34PS at 9,500rpm and generates 28Nm at 7,500rpm. The motor is paired to a six speed transmission.

The bikes are currently manufactured in association with TVS Motors at its Hosur plant in India. The TVS Apache RR 310 is based on the BMW G 310 R, using the same motor, frame and suspension.

While the G 310 R and G 310 GS share most parts , they cater to completely different needs. The G 310 R is a street naked while the G 310 GS is an entry level adventure tourer, which explains the higher ground clearance and long travel suspension.

With the launch only a few months away, we expect to ride both the motorcycles in India soon. Watch this space for a comprehensive report.
