Nissan Concept 20-23 debuts as the brands sporty urban EV concept
Nissan is showcasing its future range with a new sporty urban EV prototype, with aspirations to go 100 electric electric in Europe by 2030. The 20-23 Concept is similar to the previously teased electric Micra, and it hints at what Nissan may build in the hot hatch market as the Japanese firm continues its electric revamp. The Concept 20-23 is a "sporty, urban EV concept" developed by the Nissan Design Europe (NDE) studio to commemorate the design arm studio's 20th anniversary in Paddington, London.
Although Nissan has not released the concept car's proportions, it is inspired by Nissan's tiny Pike vehicles from the early 1990s: the Be-1, Pao, Figaro, and S-Cargo. It definitely appears to be a lot, with muscular bumpers, big flared wheel arches, a complex rear diffuser, roof-mounted rear wings, and even scissor doors on the outside.
The circular light signatures are inspired by the all-new Nissan Z, and the roof scoop-like part seems to be a LIDAR sensor rather than an actual air intake, indicating Nissan's future direction in terms of sophisticated driver-aid capabilities.
A big single-piece spoiler emerges elegantly from the roof rail at the back, with endplates that curve from near vertical close to the c-pillar to the inclined horizontal part that provides downforce.
The designers stripped electronics to a bare minimum within the cockpit to mimic "a racing car's bare functionality," simply installing minimal physical controls around a steering yoke with paddle shifters.
To access their deep bucket seats, the driver and passenger must climb over foam-covered brace bars, and instead of a steering wheel, the driver grips a yoke-style device housing an array of switches and buttons, with paddles located behind it to adjust the performance of the electric motors and regenerative brakes.
Nissan EV Plans
Nissan sold one million global electric vehicles in July, more than a decade after introducing its first EV, the Nissan LEAF. The Ariya electric SUV, the Japanese automaker's second global EV, went on sale late last year.
Nissan intends to deliver 19 completely electric vehicles by 2030 as part of its Ambition 2030 goal. By 2028, the business hopes to develop cobalt-free technology that will lower battery prices by 65 percent.
Nissan India
Nissan currently doesn't sell an EV in India. In fact, the only car in the brand's Indian portfolio is the Magnite, but with the Ariya SUV being quite a big hit in the overseas market, we could hope the Japanese brand spreads its wings slightly more prominently in India
