New Mercedes-Benz little G-Class confirmed

Mercedes-Benz recently pulled the wraps off the new all-electric Concept CLA with a whopping range of more than 750km at the IAA Mobility 2023 in Munich. While the futuristic Concept CLA was the centre of attention, an announcement about the smaller G-Class has managed to grab the headlines as Ola Källenius, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG and Chief Executive Officer of Mercedes-Benz confirmed the Little G. He also emphasised that the baby G-Class will be a fun to drive - both on and off-road.

The smaller G-Class is claimed to go on sale in 2026. Rumours have it that the SUV could rid of the traditional off-road-oriented body-on-frame platform to use the firm's new Modular Architecture (MMA). Given that, the baby G-Class is likely to be available as an all-electric vehicle. Although its technical specifications are not available, expect the baby G-Wagon to boast off-road-focused equipment. In terms of design, Mercedes-Benz says that the little G-Class will be "instantly recognisable" drawing inspiration from the original G-Class.

From a military vehicle to a sporty and muscular AMG G 63, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class has come a long way. Since its introduction in 1979, the G-Class has been in existence for more than 40 years and has not only emerged as an acclaimed off-roader but also a status symbol with its flamboyant style. However, as the world of automotive is moving towards carbon neutrality, the carmaker will soon bid a farewell to its might internal combustion V8 and thus the AMG G 63. As a part of this, it recently unveiled the Final Edition G 500 V8, with production limited to only 1,500 units worldwide.

On the flip side, Mercedes is readying the all-electric EQG for 2024. This electrified SUV has been showcased at various motor shows in the last couple of years. The upcoming EQG is expected to feature advanced battery technology and a quad electric motor setup - one at each wheel - providing on-demand torque to an individual wheel when required.

In the meantime, the German luxury carmaker is likely to introduce the 2024 G-Class facelift sometime globally by the end of this year, bringing in cosmetic changes inside and out, upgraded tech, tweaked equipment, newer MBUX, and additional features. Since the current G-Class is available in India at Rs 2.55 crore (ex-showroom), the updated SUV is also expected to make its way to the market shortly after its global debut.
