New BMW R 1300 GS India launch soon
BMW Motorrad unveiled its highly anticipated new motorcycle, the R 1300 GS, in September last year. After nearly six months, it appears that the brand will soon introduce the successor to the R 1250 GS in India, possibly within the coming weeks. The new R 1300 GS promises a fresh design, a more powerful engine, updated underpinnings, advanced electronics, and additional features.
The design of the all-new R 1300 GS marks a significant departure from its predecessor, the R 1250 GS. It presents a compact and sleek appearance with a touch of sportiness. The front fascia features an X-shaped light setup comprising a matrix LED headlamp and daytime running lights. The motorcycle boasts a new main frame constructed from a new sheet metal material and a new dia-cast aluminum sub-frame. It is offered in three color options: Triple Black, GS Trophy, and Option 719 Tramuntana.
Continuing the tradition of the R 1250 GS, the R 1300 GS retains telelever front forks and a paralever rear mono-shock. Additionally, it introduces new electronic dynamic suspension adjustment, which automatically adjusts spring rate based on ride mode and conditions. Active height adjustment and sports suspension, offering 20mm more spring travel at both ends, are also available.
Equipped with a plethora of features, the R 1300 GS includes four ride modes (Road, Rain, Eco, and Enduro), ABS Pro, traction control, hand protectors with indicators, dynamic cruise control with brake function, phone charging compartment with a USB charging socket, heated seats for rider and pillion, a 6.5-inch color TFT instrument console, RDC, MSR, heated grips, keyless ignition, and intelligent emergency call function. The Riding Assistant package offers Active Cruise Control (ACC), Front Collision Warning (FCW), and Lane Change Warning (SWW).
BMW R 1300 GS: Engine specificationsPowering the R 1300 GS is a 1,300cc, boxer-twin, liquid-cooled double overhead camshaft (DOHC) engine generating 145PS at 7,750rpm and 149Nm of torque at 6,500rpm. The increased displacement of 46cc, achieved through a four-valve DOHC configuration and larger valves, is complemented by improvements to the ShiftCam variable valve timing system for enhanced efficiency. BMW has reduced weight by 4kg by relocating the gearbox beneath the engine, resulting in a shorter powertrain length. With other bodywork changes, the R 1300 GS is now 12kg lighter than its predecessor, weighing 237kg.
BMW R 1300 GS: Pricing
It is expected to have a starting price of around Rs 23 lakh for the base trim in India, compared to Rs 20.55 lakh for the R 1250 GS and Rs 22.50 lakh for the R 1250 GS Adventure. In the UK, the R 1300 GS starts at £18,465. In India, it will compete with models such as the Ducati Multistrada V4, Harley-Davidson Pan-America 1250, Triumph Tiger 1200, and Honda Africa Twin.
