Mercedes-Benz Vision EQS flagship EV concept teased ahead of Frankfurt debut
Mercedes-Benz has teased its newest electric vehicle concept, the Vision EQS, ahead of the sedan's debut at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show. This concept previews an electric version of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class that will go on sale by 2022. This will be the fourth model for the EQ sub-brand, after the EQC SUV and EQV MPV already on sale now and the EQA hatch set to debut sometime in the next year.
As the name suggests, the EQS is the electric equivalent of the flagship S-Class sedan. The teaser reveals a very aggressively styled coupe-like silhouette, which will think we carry over to the production car more-or-less unchanged. There is a short overhang at the rear and a heavily raked windscreen upfront. Other features are the high-shoulder line and the prominent bulges just below theme. We expect the EQS to also follow the more futuristic, slightly smoother look of the other EQ cars and come with a similar skateboard style platform with roughly 400 km of range.

The EQS will compete against the likes of the Tesla Model S, the recently-revealed Porsche Taycan and the upcoming next-gen all-electric Jaguar XJ. We expect the EQS o provide for similar performance, so expect the base version to get from 0 to 100 kmph in around 5 seconds. The EQS could also share its basic architecture with the next-gen S-Class. The Mercedes EQC already is based on a modified GLE platform and the upcoming EQA will share components with the A-Class.
