Mercedes-Benz reveals the X-Class Concept

Mercedes-Benz has just revealed the X-Class Concept that previews is upcoming pick-up truck. The company unveiled two variants of the X-Cass Concept – Powerful Adventurer and Stylish Explorer.

Mercedes says that their pick-up bears the traditional traits of a pick-up-strong, functional, tough and with the capability of going off-road. It is also the first true premium pick-up, it adds. As we've said before, the X-Class Concept is based on the same platform that underpins the Nissan Navara and the Renault Alaskan.

The twin-cab pick-up truck, in the Powerful Adventurer trim features a large grille with the three-pointed star at the centre. The headlamps features DRLs and LED headlamps that should make it to the production variant too. The uni-airdam enhances the width of the pickup and overall, the face looks bold. Notice the winch located at the lower lip of the bumper.

The side profile adds to the butch character of the Concept X-Class with the flared wheel-arches, and the large tyres adding some muscle. Note the blacked out cladding that may be made out of high-grade plastic.

At the rear is an unconventional tail-gate with vertical LED lights. There's a winch at the rear bumper too. Overall it looks set to take on the wilderness.

The insides are swathed in typical Mercedes-Benz luxury with leather and carbon-fibre inserts across the cabin. There's a fire hydrant stuck onto the dashboard which doesn't look out of place on the pick-up truck. Other interior bits are typically Mercedes, including the COMMAND system and the air-vents.

The Stylish Explorer version looks suited to the urban environment. The distinguishing bits include DRLs above the front airdam, large low-profile wheels and a tail lamp that runs across the edges of the tailgate. Also, the luggage compartment in this variant is covered.

The interiors appear to be more luxurious than the Powerful Adventurer. There's a large strip of wood that runs across the dashboard and the entire cabin is covered in dual-tone leather. It also gets a flat-bottomed steering wheel instead of the conventional steering wheel in the Adventurer.

Mercedes-Benz is expected to offer four and six-cylinder engines, in both petrol and diesel options. A six-speed manual transmission will standard while a 7-speed automatic will be offered as an option. The production version is set to go on sale by late 2017. Key markets include Europe, Latin America, South Africa and Australia.
