Mercedes-Benz India to launch S-Class Cabriolet and C-Class Cabriolet on November 9, 2016

We drove the 2016 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Cabriolet in June this year. At that time, we had revealed that Mercedes-Benz India will introduce the convertible version of the C-Class by the end of this year. Now, we have received an official confirmation from the carmaker. However, it's not just one but two convertible that will be launched by Mercedes-Benz India on the same day. Both the S-Class Cabriolet and the C-Class Cabriolet will be launched in India on November 9, 2016.

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class Cabriolet retains the same 4.7-litre, twin turbo petrol engine from the regular S-Class. In the Cabriolet version it makes 455PS of power and 700Nm of torque. The engine is coupled to a 9-speed automatic gearbox and the driver will have the option of changing gears manually via paddle shifters. Mercedes-Benz says that the S-Class Cabriolet can sprint to 100kmph in 4.6 seconds. It has an electronically restricted top speed of 250kmph.

Mercedes-Benz also says that the S550 Cabriolet can lower its fabric roof in just 20 seconds. The driver can close or open the roof while driving at speeds up to 50kmph. The fabric roof gets a 'three-layer construction along with acoustically optimized seals' to ensure that wind and road noise levels are kept at a minimum. The climate control system can detect when the roof has been lowered and automatically adjusts cabin settings. It even monitors outside humidity levels to prevent the windscreen from fogging up.

Globally, the C-Class Cabriolet is offered with six petrol and two diesel engines. In India, it is expected to be sold only with a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine which makes 245PS of power and 370Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. The luxury carmaker claims that it can sprint to 100kph in 6.7 seconds and attain a top speed of 250kmph.

Just like the S550 Cabriolet, Mercedes says that the C-Class Cabriolet too gets an acoustically enhanced fabric soft top which be opened or closed in 24 seconds and operated at speeds up to 50kmph. Once launched, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Cabriolet will rival the Audi A3 Cabriolet.
