Mahindra XUV700 to get Petrol Automatic in base variant?

Mahindra is set to launch a new entry-level petrol automatic variant of the XUV700. The MX trim is exclusively available with a manual in both petrol and diesel engine choices, with an automatic transmission currently only available on the AX variant. Now, a document from the Transport Department of the Government of the NCT of Delhi has surfaced, providing insight into the possibility of the XUV700 petrol being sold with an automatic transmission in the lowest MX trim.

Customers purchasing an XUV700 petrol automatic will save around Rs 2.40 lakh with the new MX petrol automatic model, provided they are ready to compromise on some of the additional amenities offered with the AX3 trim. Powering the XUV700 Petrol is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine that produces 200PS and 380Nm of torque.

The MX trim level has an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto (but no Apple CarPlay), a 7-inch multi-information display, power windows, type-C charging outlets for second-row passengers, 2nd row AC vents, tilt adjustable steering and a four-speaker music system. ABS with EBD, two front airbags, electronic stability control, and ISOFIX child seat mounts are all standard safety equipment.

Currently, the XUV700 range starts from Rs 13.99 lakh for the MX Petrol while the AX range starts from Rs 16.29 lakh. The top-of-the-line AX7 variant starts from Rs 23.99 lakh. The Mahindra XUV700 competes with rivals such as the MG Hector, Tata Harrier, Tata Safari, and Hyundai Alcazar. Upon the launch of the new automatic base variant, it will also eat into the mid-size SUV segment that consists of vehicles like the Creta, Taigun, Seltos, Elevate and so on. Prices of the new automatic variant are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
