KIA Sonet sub-compact SUV might be launched in Q3 2020
The Indian car market has turned out to be very promising for Kia after the huge success of the Kia Seltos SUV. The next SUV is based on the Sonet concept that was showcased at the Auto Expo 2020. According to sources, this Sonet-based SUV might make its global debut in mid-2020 and will be on sale in the third quarter of this year.
While the Corona virus outbreak and the resultant lockdown across the world has certainly affected schedules, the timeline might get pushed ahead. But it is a fact that the new Kia SUV will be based on its cousin, the Hyundai Venue's platform. Kia will certainly make sure that the Sonet looks radically different, just like the Korean companies have managed on the Seltos and the Hyundai Creta.
We can expect the signature Kia grille in the front and the lines on the Sonet to resemble the Seltos and be a little muscular like the concept. Â Just like in the upper segment, the Hyundai and the Kia will fight it out on the features list and the Sonet might also get a panoramic sunroof, a first in that segment, along with the larger 10-inch touchscreen display in the offing.
Under the hood, the Sonet might continue employing the Venue powertrains - the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol with the dual-clutch AT, the 1.2-litre petrol engine with a 5-speed manual and the 1.5-litre 100PS diesel engine with a 6-speed manual. Safety equipment like dual front airbags with ABS will be standard.
In terms of pricing, Kia will certainly keep it competitive pitting it against the Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Mahindra XUV300, Ford Ecosport and the Honda WR-V.
