Jeep Grand Cherokee to be locally assembled once launched in India in second half of 2022

The Jeep Grand Cherokee was showcased last year in the US and Jeep have now confirmed that the Grand Cherokee will come to India in the second half of 2022. Not just that, but Jeep has also confirmed that the Grand Cherokee will be locally assembled in India.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee in the United States is offered in the regular V6 and V8 engines. Apart from that, Jeep has also included the Grand Cherokee 4xe, the first plug-in hybrid variant, and the Trailhawk, an off-road variant of the Grand Cherokee with a hybrid motor. There is no confirmation as to which powertrains will make its way to India.

We suspect that the 3.6-litre V6 engine with 297PS and 352Nm of torque, which is the standard variant will definitely be one of the preferred choices. The V6 has a rear-wheel-drive system as standard, with many alternative four-wheel-drive systems available as options. A turbocharged 2-litre inline-four petrol engine with two electric motors that produces 375PS and 637Nm of peak torque could also be on the cards. On a full charge, Jeep claims an electric driving range of 40 kilometres.

The new Jeep Grand Cherokee doesn't look very different from previous versions of the vehicle. Which is certainly not a bad thing. Certain design components, including active grille shutters, air curtains and revised rear pillars, are included in the 2019 Grand Cherokee to improve aerodynamic efficiency. The base Overland trim has a gloss black roof as an option, but the top-spec Trailhawk, Summit and Summit Reserve trims have it as standard. A wide track allows for better handling and mobility. There are also 8 wheel options to choose from for Jeep Grand Cherokee, but all 8 won't necessarily be available in India.

On the inside the Jeep Grand Cherokee comes with a new 10.1-inch screen built in the dashboard that is devoted to the front passenger. A 10.1-inch central infotainment screen and a digital instrument cluster of equal size are also available. A 10-inch head-up display, a wireless smartphone charging pad, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, as well as back seat entertainment displays, are among the other features.

The all-new Jeep seating architecture has a length-adjustable front-row cushion as well as 16-way adjustable front seats with power lumbar and memory functions. A full suite of adjustable LED lighting with daytime/nighttime settings is standard on all trim levels, and ambient lighting with a 5-colour option.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee comes with a whole host of safety features. Full-speed collision warning with active braking and pedestrian/cyclist detection, rear cross-path detection, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, active lane management, LaneSense lane departure warning with lane keep assist, advanced brake assist, blind-spot monitoring and a new 360-degree surround-view camera system are just a few notable ones.

As to how much the Jeep Grand Cherokee will cost is something only time can tell, but what is for sure is that the big SUV from Jeep will be locally assembled in India.
