India-bound 2017 Honda City teased

It is already known that Honda is gearing up to launch the updated City in the international markets next year. Honda Thailand has recently started teasing multiple bits of the design of the 2017 City on its social pages. The same is also expected to hit Indian shores sometime next year with marginal region-centric differences.

Honda has always been tight-lipped about the development of its products. It has been very rare that its test mules have been spotted in the country. This was seen with the present-generation City that is sold in India. Even in the case of the 2017 iteration of the City, there hasn't been any substantial information that has surfaced anywhere.

Since the 2017 update will be more of a mid-life makeover, the City will retain most of its design language. The teaser images reveal the new LED headlights along with the LED daytime running lamps. The chrome grille has been updated with a wider profile. From the images, it appears that Honda has tried to offer the same design language on the front as that on the new Civic. The silhouette will get more muscular lines and also new 16-inch alloys which at present stands at 15 inches across all variants. In terms of dimensions, the new City will largely retain the same with the existing version. The taillights also gets an update in the form of a revised cluster.

The teaser images haven't revealed anything about the interior of the 2017 Honda City. We expect the design layout and the feature list to remain similar.

Presently, the Honda City is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol motor that churns out 119PS and 145Nm while the diesel variants come with a 1.5-litre diesel that produces 100PS/200Nm. The petrol motor is paired with a CVT unit. The engine options in the new 2017 Honda City is expected to remain unchanged.

The 2017 Honda City will debut in Thailand in the first week of January. Post its launch in India, the refreshed Honda City will compete with the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna and the Volkswagen Vento. The prices of the updated Honda City might go up by Rs 25,000 from its existing range.
