Maruti Suzuki recently launched a new version of its bestselling sedan, the Dzire. The new Maruti Suzuki Dzire is based on the same Heartect platform that underpins the Baleno and the next-generation Swift, which we'll see in India next year. It was launched at a starting price of Rs 5.45 lakh (ex-Delhi), but with the top-end variant costing Rs 9.41 lakh, it comes close to Ciaz territory. We were in Goa recently to drive the new Maruti Suzuki Dzire, when we found the car to be an improvement over the previous-gen car in almost every area.
Here's a thorough look at the car from our drive in Goa.
The front end of the car resembles the next-gen Swift thanks to the clamshell bonnet and the headlights
From the side, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire loses almost all semblance to the new Swift. Apart from the added boot, it gets larger doors and doesn't feature a sloping roof
Unlike with most sub-4m sedans, the boot of the Dzire doesn't look like an afterthought. You do see a little bit of the Ciaz with the pinched lip of the boot lid
The 2017 Maruti Suzuki Dzire gets LED projector headlamps with DRLs, just like the next-gen Swift
The circular detailing within the Maruti Suzuki Dzire's tail light is a smart and premium-looking touch
The 15-spoke 16-inch wheels go very well with the overall premium-looking design of the car
The new Maruti Suzuki Dzire comes with the same engines as before - an 83PS/113Nm 1.2-litre petrol and a 75PS/190Nm Multijet diesel. Both engines get the option of a 5-speed manual and AMT
Boot space in the new Maruti Suzuki Dzire has gone up significantly from 316 litres to 378 litres
The new Maruti Suzuki Dzire gets a more premium, upmarket-looking dashboard
New white on black dials are simple but classy. The black and white MID screen has some unused space, especially in the manual which doesn't get a gear position indicator
Rear seat kneeroom is greatly improved. Passengers get a split air vent and a 12V power outlet. Headroom is reduced but shouldn't be problematic for people below six feet tall
