Hyundai Motor Group develop world's first Active Shift Control for hybrid cars to enhance fuel economy
Hyundai Motors has developed the world's first tech to closely monitor gear shift 500 times in a second, called the Active Shift Control (ASC). The ASC will is said to improve the transmission efficiency by 30 per cent and provide quicker shift times. The ASC's command system is the Hybrid control unit (HCU), which means the tech so far is limited to a Hyundai's and Kia's upcoming hybrid cars.
The HCU monitors the rotational speed of transmission with a sensor inside the electric motor at 500 times per second and brings down the shift time from 500ms to 350ms to synchronize the rotational speed with that of the engine.
"The development of world's first ASC technology is a remarkable innovation which incorporates precise motor control to automatic transmission," said KyoungJoon Chang, Vice President and Head of Powertrain Control System Group of Hyundai Motor Group, "It will not only save fuel but also provide a more fun driving experience for our customers."
With the debut of the Hyundai Kona, we can expect mild-hybrid tech for the Indian automobile industry from both Hyundai and Kia is the coming years.
