Hyundai i20 facelift debuts in Europe, India launch later this year
Hyundai has revealed the first images and details of the refreshed i20 hatchback, which will go on sale in Europe soon. Hyundai launched the third-gen version of the i20 in India in 2020 and we expect this facelift to debut in India later this year. For 2023 the hatchback gets some visual enhancements and an updated list of equipment.
Hyundai has made very few modifications to the inside and appearance of the third-generation i20 as part of the mid-life upgrade. The front bumper now matches the grille and has two massive arrow-shaped inlets on either side. The headlights have also been somewhat reprofiled, with the LED daytime running lights now located on top of the headlamps.
From the side, the facelifted Hyundai i20 appears identical, although it does get new 16-inch or 17-inch alloy wheels. The exterior paint hue palette has been expanded with the inclusion of a new Lime metallic colour, Lumen Grey, and a Meta Blue pearl shade.
Hyundai has eliminated the i20's diesel options, and the hatchback is now only available in petrol form. This suggests that the new facelifted i20 will keep the existing version's 1.2-litre four-cylinder turbocharged 83PS and 115Nm of torque petrol engine and 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged 120PS and 178Nm of torque petrol engine. A five-speed manual, a CVT automatic or an iMT are transmission options depending on the engine.
The most noticeable interior change in this refurbished i20 is the new full-TFT instrument console, which appears identical to that of the Alcazar SUV. Aside from that, the cabin appears to maintain its present amenities, such as the 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, automated temperature control, a four-spoke multi-functional steering wheel, and wireless charging. The new i20 is also likely to contain some new amenities, such as ventilated front seats.
While there are no significant modifications to the powertrain or safety features, the most notable addition to the updated i20 is the incorporation of ADAS, which includes lane-following assistance and front collision warning.
The Hyundai i20 facelift, when launched in India, will continue to rival the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, the Tata Altroz and the Toyota Glanza.
