Hyundai Creta's 1.5-litre diesel will now power the Hyundai Elantra
Hyundai had launched the new facelift Elantra in October 2019 but only with a petrol engine, the one that could comply with the impending BS-VI norms. Well, if you have been waiting for the new Elantra but with a diesel powertrain, Hyundai has decided to plonk in the same diesel engine as the Creta into the premium sedan.
As per their recent submissions to the ARAI, the regulatory authority for the automotive market in India, Hyundai has declared that they will be offering the Hyundai Elantra with the 1.5-litre diesel engine that also powers the new Hyundai Creta. It produces 115PS of power and 250Nm of torque and will be offered with the six-speed manual as well as the six-speed automatic gearbox options.
The new Elantra comes with LED headlamps and daytime running lamps, new front and rear bumpers, new alloy design, new tail lamps and the triangular fog lamps. Inside, it gets an 8-inch touchscreen display with Apple Car Play and Android Auto, ventilated seats in the front, cooled glove box, 10-way adjustable driver seat. It also gets an electric sunroof, dual-zone climate control, cruise control and other creature comforts.
It competes with the likes of the Toyota Corolla Altis, the Honda Civic, the Skoda Octavia and the Volkswagen Jetta in the Indian premium sedan market. We can expect the entry-level Elantra diesel to be priced at about Rs 18 lakh ex-showroom while the top-spec diesel automatic could be prices at about Rs 21 lakh, ex-showroom and we can expect it to be launched within a few weeks.
