Global semiconductor shortage affects deliveries of the MG Astor SUV
If you have booked yourself the latest offering from MG Motors India, the MG Astor SUV, then you are in for a really long wait. The MG Astor SUV's supply dates have been hampered by the continuing global semiconductor scarcity.
The MG Astor was launched in India in October and while it is a very promising SUV from an MG sales point of view, the deliveries of the Astor will take a very long time due to the worldwide semiconductor shortage carmakers are facing. MG Motor India's Chief Commercial Officer, Gaurav Gupta, has now issued a clarification addressing MG Astor's delivery timetable.
He stated that the current scenario is unusual owing to unpredictable deliveries and that the brand's component suppliers' weekly timetable is also changing. Although if the situation does not improve, MG Motors India has pledged to supply 5,000 units this calendar year, but this might be pushed to next year. Customers in the first batch will be protected at the launch price, according to Gupta.
The MG Astor SUV is available in four different versions: Style, Super, Smart and Sharp. The manufacturer stated that demand for the Style and Super versions surpassed the brand's expectations. The status of the delivery may be checked via the MG App and website, or by contacting the authorised MG dealerships. MG also stated that it is doing everything possible to remedy the problem.
The 2021 MG Astor is offered with two petrol engines. The base engine available on all four variants is a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated motor making 110PS and 144 Nm. This pairs with a six-speed manual or an 8-step CVT from the Super variant onwards. The top engine is a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol that puts out 140PS and 220 Nm mated to a six-speed AT. This is seen on the top two Smart and Sharp trims and is fitted with a torque converter automatic only.
The MG Astor is well equipped right from the base variant onwards, the Style trim packing LED headlamps and DRLs, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto/Apple Carplay, leather interior trim, auto AC, ESP, fog lamps, hill-descent control and keyless entry.
The segment-first Level 2 ADAS is an option on the top Sharp variants and brings with its capabilities like adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, lane departure warning and prevention, intelligent headlamp control, rear-drive assist and a speed assist system amongst others.
Prices for the MG Astor start from Rs 9.78 lakh for the base Sharp. The Astor rivals everything from the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, to the Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun to larger SUVs like the Tata Harrier and Mahindra XUV700. There is also significant overlap with the MG Hector.
