Frankfurt 2013: Nissan X-Trail

Nissan has gone ahead and taken the wraps off a new seven-seater X-Trail at the Frankfurt Auto Show. Known as the Rogue in the US, it will go on sale globally in July 2014. The new X-Trail gets subtle changes in looks, features and riding capabilities.

Nissan has not revealed details of the powertrain yet. That information will be revealed closer to the car's official launch. Both petrol and diesel engines are expected, with 6-speed manual and automatic gearboxes. An option of front or four-wheel-drive is available. What is certain is that the X-Trail is built on Renault-Nissan's new Common Modular Platform.

Aesthetically, the box-shaped designing is gone. A steep windscreen, a hugging roof line that tapers gradually and high wheel arches bulging on the sides lend it a look similar to the Nissan Qashqai. The hawk-eye headlamps with LED daytime running lights, tick-shaped taillights and the typical D-pillar shape are other changes. The car comes with 19" alloys.

On the inside, tinges of chrome and jet black are seen. The new X-Trail gets the NissanConnect infotainment system and a 7" colour touch screen. Uphill Start Support, Advance Hill Descent Control, Active Ride Control and Active Engine Brake are the driver assists available.

Nissan will build the new X-Trail in over five plants globally and sell it in over 100 markets. The model could be expected to hit Indian shores sometime in the end of 2014.
