Ferrari 296 GTS unveiled as the Italian's 2nd plug-in hybrid convertible

The new Ferrari 296 GTS convertible, Ferrari's fourth plug-in hybrid vehicle, was unveiled on Tuesday. The new 296 GTS, like the Ferrari 812 GTS, Ferrari SF90 Spider and Ferrari F8 Tributo Spider, has a retractable roof that stows under the car's turbocharged V6 plug-in hybrid powerplant.

To accommodate the GTS's roof's storage needs, a new rear tonneau cover has been introduced, replacing the striking transparent composite unit featured on the coupe with one with a smaller window into the crowded engine compartment.

According to the official claims, the roof only takes 14 seconds to lower or raise. The car does not need to come to a complete stop to operate the roof, which can be raised or lowered at speeds of up to 45 kmph.

The Ferrari 296 GTS, uses the same 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 plug-in hybrid and produces a whopping 819PS and 740Nm of torque. An 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox delivers all of this power to the rear wheels. This hybrid powertrain accelerates the automobile from 0 to 100 kmph in under 2.9 seconds. The convertible also maintains the same top speed of 330kmph.

The Ferrari 296 GTS features an eManettino switch in addition to the usual steering-wheel-mounted Manettino control, with four selectable positions, just like the GTB. eDrive mode eliminates internal combustion and provides pure electric propulsion to the rear wheels exclusively, with Ferrari claiming that the 296 GTS can go 15 miles in EV mode.

The interior is identical to the GTB, with the exception of aerodynamic flaps built into the rear trim structure to decrease noise and vibration. That implies an upgraded infotainment system from the SF90 and Roma, as well as an additional passenger-side display with information like engine rpm, speed, and gear selection.
