2018 Datsun Go and Go+: Things you may like, and some you may not

The Go twins are quite appealing now, with their midlife makeover

New styling

The Go twins had a handsome yet very conservative styling that found limited takers. The mid-life makeover brings along few, but significant changes to the bumpers and grille which instantly make this facelift appear quite appealing. Especially on the Go hatchback, the vibrant new shade of orange looks particularly good.

Better cabin

Honestly, the cabin of the outgoing Go twins felt too basic and a bit too low-rent despite being functional. The midlife update fixes it for both the cars making the cabin feel more on par with the competition and the times, in its look, feel and equipment.

Safer

Safety has been a very big concern for the Go twins and Datsun says that it has worked hard towards making the structure safer. The chassis has been strengthened in various areas to improve crash worthiness against side and frontal collisions. The cabin now features dual airbags and the brakes are fitted with ABS.

High-speed stability

The high-speed stability is still a bit of a concern on the Go twins. While the 14-inch alloys on the range topping trim do improve the steering feel, it still feels quite vague at speed and the skinny tyres make the cars feel skittish at highway speeds. The braking is progressive, though.

Audio quality

The new infotainment is quite nice for an entry-spec car, with its crisp display and easy to use interface. The audio unit however is too basic and the speakers, which are only available in the front doors, bottom out on bass heavy music. They also sound a bit tinny irrespective of the equaliser settings and that's a bit of a turn off. The conventional round design for these speakers should allow an easy swap with better aftermarket units, though.
