EICMA 2014: Triumph extends the Tiger range with XCx and XRx variants

Continuing with its current practice of adding an 'x' suffix to its bikes and showering them with a host of new features, Triumph unveiled a new Tiger 800 XCx and the XRx at the 2014 EICMA. The most notable and common new features include a traction control system, cruise control and four switchable throttle maps for rain, road, sport and off-road riding. The rider can also choose between three riding modes - Road, Off-Road and Programmable Rider mode, which define the settings for the throttle maps, anti-lock brakes and the traction control system.

There's also a new configurable anti-lock braking system that's exclusive to the 'x' range. When in the off-road riding mode, the ABS is disabled on the rear wheel to allow a deliberate lock-up, while the front brakes allow a limited level of front wheel slip. Triumph claims that this setup allows the riders to have their off-road riding fun, while providing better braking stability.

Over and above the features offered in the Tiger 800XC, the XCx includes engine guards, auto-cancel indicators, an additional 12V power socket, a centre stand, an aluminum sump guard and hand guards.

The Triumph Tiger 800 XR, which is not yet sold in India, also benefits from these new additions for a new XRx variant. Additionally, it gets the 'comfort' trim rider and pillion seats and an adjustable windscreen.
