362,758 Tesla's recalled due to self-driving system
Electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla is recalling more than three lakh vehicles because it's "self-driving" beta software poses an accident risk.
Model S, Model X, Model 3, and Model Y vehicles manufactured between 2016 and 2023 with FSD Beta software installed or in the process of being installed are included in the recall.
The Tesla software, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), "increases the danger of an accident by allowing a vehicle to violate speed limits or proceed through intersections in an illegal or unexpected manner."
Tesla stated there have been no reported injuries or fatalities that may be connected to the recall problem and would offer a free over-the-air (OTA) software upgrade.
The Tesla autonomous driving setback occurs roughly two weeks before the company's investor day on March 1, when CEO Elon Musk is anticipated to highlight the EV maker's use of artificial intelligence and its aspirations to broaden its vehicle selection.
Due to a series of accidents with parked emergency vehicles, the NHTSA launched an inquiry into 830,000 Tesla vehicles equipped with the driver assistance technology Autopilot in 2021. The NHTSA is examining whether Tesla cars sufficiently guarantee that drivers are paying attention. Notwithstanding the FSD recall, the NHTSA stated on Thursday that it "remains open and ongoing" investigation of Tesla's Autopilot and related vehicle technologies.
According to NHTSA, some scenarios where the issue can manifest include proceeding through certain junctions while the traffic light is still on yellow and changing lanes out of specific turn-only lanes in order to proceed straight.
Tesla said, "In certain rare circumstances the feature could potentially infringe upon local traffic laws or customs while executing certain driving manoeuvres."
