2020 Toyota Yaris facelift teased ahead of global debut

Toyota Motor is set to launch the facelifted Toyota Yaris in international markets on July 25. The sedan went through a minor revision in the Indian market some time back, but this is a more extensive update.

It's quite apparent that the Yaris' design now takes inspiration from Toyota's larger, global family of sedans. This is apparent in the much larger two-part grille. The lower half now progressively widens and is finished with horizontal elements, very similar to the Camry sold in India. The headlamps now look like LED units with a chrome element extending into them from the grille. The foglamp housings have changed too. At the rear, we expect to see new bumpers and an updated taillamp cluster. A new alloy wheel design is expected too.

No pictures are available of the interior just yet, but we expect to see some new materials and features here, with the basic design staying that same. A new infotainment and more creature comforts are expected. The Yaris has impressed with its class-leading suite of safety features, and that should continue with the facelift too.

No mechanical changes are expected. The Yaris is powered by a 107PS and 140Nm of torque. This is paired with a six-speed manual or a CVT gearbox option. The Yaris is not available with a diesel option.

The Toyota Yaris launched in India in April 2018, but hasn't been a sales success. This was mainly due to its high price point. There is no word yet on whether Toyota will bring the new Yaris to India, but given the resurgence seen by this segment lately, this facelift could be a good opportunity to repackage the Yaris into a more attractive package for our market. The Yaris competes with the likes of the Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and Hyundai Verna.
