2020 Mini Countryman facelift unveiled globally

The Mini Countryman SUV has received a host of updates as part of its mid-cycle update. The second-generation car has been on sale since 2017 globally and was launched in India in 2018.

The changes to the Countryman are derived from what has been seen elsewhere in the Mini line-up. There is a larger hexagonal grille and new bumpers finished in body colour in the front. The LED headlamps are now standard across the range. An adaptive lighting system is available optionally. At the rear, the LED tail lamps get the Union Jack motif in them, while the bumper has been tweaked too.

There are new alloy wheel designs, and two new colour options, White Silver metallic and Sage Green metallic. Finally, a Gloss Black exterior trim option is also available as an option. This finishes the headlamp surrounds, rear lights, radiator grille and side indicator elements in glow black. Further, the ALL4 versions can be had with distinct styling elements to distinguish them from the rest of the line-up.

On the inside, there are new customisation and trim options. The features list has been added to with a sports leather steering wheel as standard, along with a 5-inch digital instrument cluster. This is aside from the 8.8-inch iDrive derived system with all manner of navigation and connectivity options.

The ALL4 all-wheel-drive system is an option on the four engine variants on offer, all of which now meet the most stringent European emission norms. These engines range from 1.5-litre petrol and diesel options, going up to 2.0-litre petrol and diesel units. A plug-in hybrid version, with standard ALL4, is also available. Power outputs range from 102PS for the base One Countryman, and go up to 220PS for the Cooper SE Countryman ALL4.

When the car launches in India, it is expected to come with the 2.0-litre petrol motor with 192PS and 280 Nm. It will go up against the BMW X1, Volvo XC40 and the upcoming Audi Q3 and Mercedes GLA.
