2018 Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster launched in India at Rs 11.11 lakh

Triumph Motorcycles has launched the Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster in India at a price of Rs 11.11 lakh (ex-showroom). Triumph dealerships spread across the country had already started accepting bookings, the deliveries of the Speedmaster will start shortly. The 2018 Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster is based on the T120 and offers a more classic design inspired by the classic American cruisers of the 50s and the 60s. The Speedmaster employs the twin-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 1200cc that also does duty on the Bonneville T120, Bobber and Thruxton. Triumph states that the Speedmaster gets the same midrange performance as the Bobber, which makes for a 10 per cent gain in torque at 4,500rpm over the regular T120. Outputs stand at 77PS and 106Nm. In terms of competition, the Speedmaster is expected to take on the likes of the Harley-Davidson Sportster 1200 Custom and Indian Scout Sixty.

In terms of design, the Speedmaster continues with the classic British motorcycle look akin to its siblings, though it gets distinctive features like an all-LED headlight and LED daytime running lamps and a 'heritage-inspired' battery box with a stainless steel strap. Low, pulled back 'beach' handlebars and forward set footpegs add to the cruiser stance. The Speedmaster is available with two kits, the Maverick kit for a stripped-back look, and the Highway kit aimed at those who would like to take their motorcycle on tours. The Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster gets a comprehensive electronics suite including traction and cruise control, riding modes and ABS.

The other bits that the Triumph Speedmaster shares with the Bobber is the hard-tail-look chassis and swingarm, which we believe adds to the retro classic appeal of this motorcycle. The Speedmaster differs from the Bobber Black with new 41mm cartridge fork and a rear suspension unit with both a dual-rate main spring. The fuel tank size too has been increased for a better range to make it more suitable for those highway runs.

The Speedmaster also comes equipped with a torque assist clutch to reduce effort at the lever, which Triumph says will help in reducing fatigue over longer rides and commutes in city traffic as well. The Speedmaster rides on 16-inch wheels at both ends that come suspended with 41mm front forks and a hidden monoshock with preload adjustment. Braking duties are taken care of by dual 310mm discs up front with Brembo floating calipers at the front and a single 255mm disc with a Nissin caliper at the rear.
