2018 Maruti Suzuki Ciaz: Variants explained

The midlife refresh of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz brings with it a new 1.5-litre petrol engine, updated Smart Hybrid technology (petrol-only), subtle styling changes and a few extra features. In terms of powertrains, you can choose between the new 1.5-litre petrol mated to a five speed gearbox, or the petrol with a four speed automatic transmission. A 1.3-litre diesel engine mated to a five speed gearbox is also available. If you haven't yet, you can read our first impressions on the new Ciaz here. Meanwhile, we've also got a list of what we liked and what we didn't, for a quicker take on the new Ciaz. The Ciaz moved to Maruti Suzuki's more premium line of Nexa dealerships earlier on, and the new one will follow the same path. Variants are named Sigma, Delta, Zeta, Alpha, from the base to the top. If the individual specifications and features read like Greek to you, we've broken down what you get with each variant to make it simpler.

Ciaz Sigma

The base variant of the Ciaz might look more basic on the outside, with 15-inch steel wheels and drastically less chrome and silver garnishing, though that can be viewed as a good thing. It's surprisingly full of comfort and convenience features though, so even with the base variant you wouldn't feel shortchanged. To illustrate what we're talking about, consider what's included on the base variant: electrically-adjustable ORVMS, power windows all-around, keyless entry, rake-adjustable steering, audio with CD player and Bluetooth connectivity, four speakers and two tweeters, steering mounted audio/Bluetooth controls, reverse parking sensors. The base variant is priced at Rs 8.19 lakh for the petrol manual, while the diesel costs a lakh more at Rs 9.19, both prices ex-showroom.

Ciaz Delta

The next model up adds a few exterior flourishes, with silver trim around the front fog lamps and rear reflectors, and 15-inch alloy wheels, as seen on the outgoing model. The features list too includes everything from the Sigma variant, and swells with the addition of aforementioned fog lamps, cruise control (with steering mounted controls) and automatic air-conditioning. The driver's seat gains height adjustability, so if this is an important feature for you, this is the variant to get. The automatic is available on this variant. The Ciaz Delta is priced at Rs 8.8 lakh for the petrol manual, while the automatic and diesel variants are priced the same at Rs 9.8 lakh, ex-showroom.

Ciaz Zeta

With the Zeta, you see the full list of changes, as carried out on the refreshed Ciaz, as well as significantly more comfort features. The lighting is all LED – projector lights, DRLs, fog lamps and brake lights, though you still get 15-inch alloy wheels. The Zeta has the Delta's features, and moves to an intelligent key fob with immobiliser, with a start/stop button, apart from having electrically folding mirrors, rear sunshade, footwell lighting and rear view camera displayed on the IRVM. The Ciaz Zeta is priced at Rs 9.57 lakh for the petrol manual, and Rs 10.57 lakh (ex-showroom) for the petrol automatic and diesel manual, both.

Ciaz Alpha

The top-spec variant. It gets 16-inch alloy wheels, a healthy serving of chrome all around, and premium features. On top of what's available on the Zeta, it adds leather upholstery, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment with Apple/Android integration and navigation, voice commands and more. The Ciaz Alpha retails for Rs 9.97 lakh for the petrol manual, while the petrol automatic and diesel manual are priced the same at Rs 10.97 lakh (both ex-showroom prices).
