2016 Auto Expo: Hyundai to showcase new Tucson, Eon facelift and sub-4m compact SUV

Hyundai India will showcase the new Tucson, Eon facelift and sub-4m compact SUV concept at the 2016 Auto Expo. In addition to these, Hyundai is also expected to reveal the new Elantra and an N performance car.

The Tucson, which was launched in 2005, couldn't do well for Hyundai in India and as a result was discontinued after five years of its launch. However, seeing the popularity of premium SUVs in India, Hyundai will relaunch the Tucson in a completely new form by the end of this year. The new generation Hyundai Tucson gets a bold and sophisticated design as it incorporates the Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 language. It gets Hyundai's now familiar hexagonal grille. The swept back headlights come with daytime running LED strips. The side profile of the Hyundai Tucson is reminiscent of the Hyundai Santa Fe. There are strong wedge lines running along the length of the profile.  The muscular profile of the rear quarter gives it an impressive touch. The interiors too will feature an exhaustive list of features. The cabin of Hyundai Tucson will be spacious and will offer generous legroom and headroom for even tall passengers.

Hyundai entered the budget micro hatch scene with the Eon in India. The Hyundai Eon banked on typical traits of the brand with a stylish design and feature rich interiors.  However, the Eon failed to gain traction in terms of sales and couldn't really generate volumes for Hyundai, as expected earlier. Now, with the advent of cars like the Renault Kwid, the entry level hatchback segment is trending again. Hyundai is expected to showcase Eon facelift at the 2016 Auto Expo which will feature minor changes and tweaks to the overall design as well as updates to the cabin. The micro hatch is expected to launch by June 2016 in India.

Hyundai will enter the compact sub-4m SUV segment with a brand new SUV that will be showcased in a concept form at the 2016 Auto Expo. The Hyundai compact SUV will be based on the Hyundai i20 Active platform and will be sharing its mechanicals with the hatchback and the crossover. In terms of design, Hyundai will use its Fluidic Sculpture language to make it look premium than its competition. The upcoming SUV will be powered by the 1.2-litre petrol and the 1.4-litre diesel engines. With this, Hyundai will compete against the Ford EcoSport, Maruti Vitara Brezza and the Mahindra TUV300.

The other two cars that will make it to the 2016 Auto Expo include the new Elantra, which was shown at the 2015 LA Auto Show and the N performance car. This all new Hyundai Elantra will replace the outgoing version by early next year in India. Among the important changes, the new Elantra receives the Storm Edge design update. It is likely, Hyundai will launch the new Elantra with the existing engine options.

Hyundai will also unveil a N performance based car at the 2016 Auto Expo. The details of this product are still sketchy but we believe Hyundai will bring in the i20 N Sport at the Expo considering the popularity of the hatchback in India. The Hyundai i20 N Sport will feature a radical exterior with fancy alloy wheels and chiseled front and rear bumpers. It will be powered by a spruced up version of the existing petrol motor.
