Upcoming new two-wheeler launches in India

Yamaha Ray-ZR (April 2016)

While unveiling the Ray-ZR scooter at the Auto Expo 2016, Yamaha India had announced that this sporty scooter will be launched sometime around April 2016. It is powered by an 113cc Blue Core engine which makes 7.1PS. The Yamaha Ray-ZR tips the weighing scale at a rather light 103kg. The drum brake version is expected to be priced at Rs 49,000 while the disc brake version is expected to cost Rs 53,000 (both prices ex-showroom Delhi). Here are a few images from the unveiling.

Suzuki Gixxer SF Fi

At the Auto Expo 2016, Suzuki India had showcased the Gixxer SF Fi. The company had also revealed that it will reach showrooms sometime around April 2016. Suzuki even said that the fuel-injected version will be sold only in the MotoGP livery theme. The regular Suzuki Gixxer SF is powered by a 154.9cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine which makes 14.8PS and 14Nm. In comparison, the fuel-injected version is expected to make a bit more power. There will no difference between the carburetted and fuel-injected versions in terms of styling.

Triumph Thruxton and Thruxton R (May 2016)

It's been only a few months since Triumph launched the new Bonneville Street Twin along with the Bonneville T120. And Triumph isn't done with launching new motorcycles yet. The new Thruxton and the Thruxton R are expected to arrive on our shores by end of May 2016 and will be priced upwards of Rs 10 lakh. The Thruxton R is a cafe racer version of the Bonneville and is powered by  a 1,200cc parallel twin engine which produces 97PS and 112Nm. The engine is coupled to a new 6-speed gearbox.

Both the Thruxton and the Thruxton R get ride by wire, three riding modes, switchable traction control and  ABS. The Thruxton comes equipped with Kayaba forks and dual rate shocks at the rear. In comparison, the Thruxton R gets full adjustable Showa big piston forks up front and dual, fully adjustable Ohlins shocks at the rear. The more exciting bits and our review are here.

Bajaj CS 400 (June 2016)

Bajaj showcased the CS 400 at the 2014 Auto Expo and it got everyone talking. It is powered by the same 375cc engine from the KTM 390 Duke but it has been reworked and gets Bajaj's triple spark technology.  The engine comes mated to a 6-speed transmission.  The model showcased at the 2014 auto expo featured a digital instrument console, tank mounted gear indicator, front and rear disc brakes, split seats and a large fuel tank. The company hasn't revealed any details pertaining to the chassis and suspension.  Yes, it's been two years since it was unveiled and it is expected to reach Bajaj showrooms this June. Aprilia SR 150 (August 2016)

At the Auto Expo 2016, while unveiling the Aprilia SR 150, Piaggio India announced that it will be on sale by August 2016. The automatic scooter will be manufactured at the company's facility in Baramati.  The sporty scooter gets contrasting shades, 14-inch alloys, a large 220mm front disc brake and 130mm rear drums. it is powered by a 150cc engine from the Vespa 150 which is expected to make around 12PS. It is expected to be priced from Rs 90,000 to 1 lakh. Piaggio India has already started production of the Aprilia SR 150 in India.

Suzuki Swish (October 2016)

Suzuki launched the 2016 Access 125 which is based on an all new platform and is 10kg lighter than the previous version. It retains the same engine from the previous model  which now makes a higher 8.7PS and 10.2Nm. It has also received styling tweaks and looks more upmarket.

Now, the Suzuki Swish is a more sportier version of the Access. Essentially both scooters share the same hardware. With Suzuki launching the new Access one can naturally expect the new Swish based on the new platform to reach showrooms in a couple of months. The Swish was launched in 2012 and it had received a mild refresh in 2015.

Honda Africa Twin

At the Auto Expo 2016, Honda showcased the CRF1000L Africa Twin which did attract a fair bit of attention. However, what we didn't expect was Honda's announcement that their cult all terrain motorcycle will be launched in India. While Honda didn't divulge much details on the expected timeline of its launch, we expect it to reach our shores in the second half of 2016. The Honda Africa Twin will be brought to India via the CKD route, like the CBR650F is.

The Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin is powered by a 998cc, liquid-cooled, parallel twin engine which makes 95PS and 98Nm. It gets a steel semi-double cradle frame, fully adjustable long travel Showa inverted forks at the front and hydraulic spring preload adjustable Showa rear shock. It gets a large 18.8-litre fuel tank and the seat height can be adjusted by 20mm from 870mm to 850mm.

2016 Honda Africa Twin

TVS Apache RTR 200 4V ABS

In January this year, TVS launched the RTR 200 4V in India in two engine versions- as a carburetted or a fuel injected unit. During the launch, the company had announced that the ABS equipped version will be launched at a later date and will cost Rs 1.15 lakh. The TVS RTR 200 4V is powered by an all-new 197.7cc, single cylinder, four-valve oil-cooled engine. The carburetted version makes 20.5PS of power and 18.1Nm of torque while the fuel injected version makes a higher 21PS. Mahindra Mojo ABS

During the launch of the Mojo in October last year, Mahindra had announced that the ABS equipped version will be launched in a couple of months. Well, since nearly six months have passed since then, the Mahindra Mojo ABS version can be expected to roll out anytime. Also, most motorcycle manufacturers are considering launching ABS-equipped versions of their motorcycles. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways have submitted a draft proposal making ABS compulsory for all motorcycles above 125cc by 2017. It's been four months since the Mahindra Mojo joined our long term fleet and here's a report after 4,612km.

Hero Splendor i-Smart 110

Hero MotoCorp had showcased the Splendor i-Smart 110 in concept form at the Auto Expo 2016. It gets an all-new 110cc, air-cooled engine which the company claims offers nine per cent more power and 12 per cent more torque than the engine in the Splendor i-Smart. Additionally, the company had commented that the Splendor i-Smart 110 offers better fuel-economy than the current Splendor i-Smart. We expect it to be launched sometime this year in two trims - drum and disc.
