Toyota unveils all-electric Land Cruiser SE concept
Ahead of the Japan Mobility Show 2023, Toyota has unveiled several concept vehicles, including the Land Cruiser SE concept, confirming the development of an electric version of its flagship three-row off-roader, the Land Cruiser. While still in the concept stage, Toyota has provided some details about the Land Cruiser SE.
Toyota Land Cruiser SE: Design
The Land Cruiser SE concept features a radically designed, minimalistic, and futuristic design language. It exudes sophistication and elegance, offering a contrast to the ruggedness of the original Land Cruiser while maintaining an imposing stance. The Land Cruiser SE concept's design highlights include slim headlights with a connecting light bar, an upright fascia, closed-off grille, muscular wheel arches, prominent shoulder lines, a full-length light strip at the rear, a roof spoiler, and flush door handles.
This concept uses a modular monocoque chassis that Toyota claims provides highly responsive handling and confidence in tackling rough terrain. Its dimensions measure 5,150mm in length, 1,990mm in width, and 1,705mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,050mm. The electric version of the SUV can accommodate up to seven passengers.
Toyota Land Cruiser SE: Interior
Although the interior of the electric Land Cruiser SE concept is not unveiled yet, expect it to have a minimalist and modern design with ample space. It might also get a large driver and infotainment screens, vegan and eco-friendly upholstery, colour heads-up display, a hi-fi sound system, and more.
Toyota Land Cruiser SE: Powertrain
Toyota has not disclosed specific details about the battery pack, electric motors, range, power output, or charging capability. Given the vehicle's substantial size and weight as an EV, it's likely to require a large battery pack with at least a dual-motor setup producing more power and torque than the ICE Land Cruiser. A quad-motor setup could also be considered, and Toyota will equip it with a four-wheel-drive system.
