Maruti Suzuki launched the new Fronx in India today, with prices starting at Rs 7.46 lakh and going up to Rs 13.13 lakh (ex-showroom). Given its price range, Maruti's latest offering competes against an array of rivals, from the Nissan Magnite to the Kia Sonet. Here we compare all rivals of the Fronx.

The Magnite offers the lowest starting price of Rs 6 lakh, followed by the Kiger and Fronx. On the other hand, the XUV300 comes with the highest starting price of Rs 8.41 lakh, followed by the Nexon and Venue (all prices ex-showroom). The Kiger emerges as the most affordable vehicle to offer automatic transmission from Rs 8.47 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Fronx is the second most affordable in its segment in terms of pricing of automatic transmission variants, which prices start at Rs 8.87 lakh (ex-showroom). Notably, the starting price tag of the Sonet's automatic transmission variants, which is Rs 11.99 lakh (ex-showroom), makes it the most expensive automatic model.

The Fronx comes powered by two engine options: a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder, turbocharged Boosterjet petrol engine delivering 100PS/148Nm and a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol unit that makes 90PS/113Nm. Transmission options include a five-speed manual, five-speed AMT, and six-speed automatic transmission. Whereas, the Nexon gets a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine producing 120PS/170Nm and a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-diesel motor that generates 115PS/260Nm. Both units come mated to a six-speed manual and a six-speed AMT.

Mahindra offers two engine options with the XUV300: a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder diesel motor with 116PS and 300Nm of torque and a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine with 110PS and 200Nm of torque. Transmission options include a six-speed manual and AMT. On the other hand, powering the Sonet is a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 83PS/115Nm, a 1.0-litre turbo petrol motor delivering 120PS/172Nm, and a new 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged diesel unit that makes 116PS/250Nm. Kia offers a wide range of transmission options, such as a five-speed manual, six-speed iMT, six-speed torque converter automatic, and seven-speed DCT automatic.

The Venue is powered by a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine that produces 116PS/250Nm, a 1.0-litre, inline-three, turbo-petrol motor that produces 120PS/172Nm and a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated motor that generates 83PS/113.8Nm. Transmission options include a six-speed manual, six-speed iMT, and dual-clutch automatic.

All in all, Maruti Suzuki has priced the Fronx competitively, which come close to the Hyundai Venue, which is one of the best-selling cars in its segment. Notably, the Kiger and Magnite are the cheapest among the rivals, while the Sonet is the most expensive in terms of top-spec variant. In terms of powertrain, the XUV300 has the most powerful diesel powertrain, while the Sonet and Venue offer the most powerful petrol powertrain. But the XUV300 petrol produces the highest torque of 200Nm. On top of that, Kia, Hyundai, Mahindra, and Tata also offer diesel engine options with their cars that the Fronx misses out on. Renault and Nissan, on the other hand, also have petrol-only offerings. Additionally, Kia and Hyundai stand out with their unique iMT transmission. Meanwhile, the Kiger also has the largest boot space, while the XUV300 has the largest wheelbase compared to its rivals.
