Skoda Slavia, Kushaq to get smaller 8-inch touchscreen from June , supply chain constraints blamed

From June 1, 2022, Skoda will be equipping the Skoda Slavia sedan and Kushaq SUV with a smaller 8-inch touchscreen in the top Ambition and Style variants. This will replace the 10.1-inch screen that is currently available with these cars until the global supply chain constraints are brought under control.

Skoda Slavia, Kushaq new 8-inch touchscreen

Skoda India says the company is fitting the smaller screens in these variants of the Skoda Slavia and Skoda Kushaq to ensure delivery timelines are adhered to. The Czech firm is using a different global supplier for the screen set-up since the supply chain constraints have put a limit on the availability of the larger 10-inch units that were being fitted to these cars so far. The company has not set a date yet on when the larger units will return.

As a consequence of this change, these variants of the Kushaq and Slavia will lose some functions like wireless Android Auto/Apple Carplay as well as the in-built apps like booking.com and the Sygic maps. The recently launched Skoda Kushaq Monte Carlo however will continue to get the 10-inch screen with the full functions.

"In light of the continued semi-conductor shortage, we have made some minor updates to the equipment in our INDIA 2.0 cars w.e.f. 1st June onwards, so that our customers face no undue delays in taking delivery of their ŠKODA. Customers will be appraised of the feature updates by their dealers. We at ŠKODA AUTO India thank you for choosing a ŠKODA and for standing by us in these times of supply shortages. Irrespective of the global situation, we shall always endeavor to provide the best buying and ownership experience with a ŠKODA", was the company's official staement in response to a query from OVERDRIVE.

Skoda India supply delay measures

This change in touchscreen spec is the latest decision Skoda India has taken to maintain its delivery schedules. The recent launch of the Kushaq Active Peace and the Ambition Classic variant were also a measure to ensure production remained on track. As for the previously delated auto-folding mirrors function, that has now been restored. Skoda is one of many carmakers facing a severe supply crunch. It started with the chip-shortage during the pandemic but the issue has now excarebated due to a global container ship shortage, recurring covid waves among other issues.
