The Skoda Octavia has now sold over 1 lakh units in India, 1,01,111 to be precise. The D-segment sedan established the Skoda brand, and consequently the Volkswagen Group in India and has since become one of the longest continuously existing nameplates in India. The first-gen Skoda Octavia was launched in India in 2001, after its global launch in 1996.

Skoda Octavia generations India

The Skoda Octavia was the first Skoda to be fully developed by the Volkswagen Group. But it is significant in the Indian context by being one of the first successful technologically current mainstream cars to be launched in the country. When the first generation Octavia A4 launched in India, it brought with it equipment like turbo-charged engines, climate control, dual airbags, height-adjustable seats and so on. The first-gen Octavia vRS launch in 2004 was to be the first performance variant of a car to be sold in India. It also got a less-successful Combi variant in vRS and diesel form, which is now the most sought-after of this generation of Octavias.

The second-gen Octavia A5 came to India as the rebadged as the Skoda Laura in 2005, considering the first-gen remained on sale for a while alongside. This generation got turbo-petrol engines across its line-up and further improved on the mix of performance and practicality. The vRS for this generation was less of a step up but that changed with the launch of the third-generation Octavia A7 in 2013. This has been the most popular iteration of the send so far in India and it also widened the appeal of the vRS, with the 230 coming in 2017 and the 245 in 2021. The latter remains one of the fastest Octavias made. Currently, the Skoda Octavia is in its fourth, A8-generation and remains the only car in its segment. It's still popular enough to make a case for being sold in India despite the influx of SUVs in the same price range.
