A near-production test mule of the upcoming Volkswagen Virtus has been spotted testing ahead of the sedan's expected unveiling in March 2022. The Virtus is the Skoda Slavia's Volkswagen derivative and will replace the Vento in the brand's lineup.

2022 Volkswagen Virtus exterior, dimensions

The images show that the Volkswagen Virtus will draw significant inspiration from larger VW sedans like the Passat. This is seen with the wide, rectangular headlamps, which should be LED-equipped, and in the simple grille with the single chrome band running across. There should be a large airdam in the bumper and well as angular foglamp inserts. The Virtus also seem to have a flatter bonnet than the Slavia in keeping with the brand differentiation. The two sedan are quite similar in profile with the slight coupe roofline but at the rear a more sedate two-part taillamp cluster is expected withe LED detailing.

2022 Volkswagen Virtus interiors, features

As seen with the Kushaq and Taigun, the Volkswagen Virtus should come with a significantly different interior aesthetic even those more of the switchgear and panels should be shared with the Slavia. There should be a more upright dah design with simpler, rectangular air vents, finished in a brushed aluminium and grey theme as well as a different placement for the 10.1-inch touchscren infotainment. The digital instrument cluster should make its way here too with other features like the single-pane sunroof, ventilated front seats, connected-tech, climate control, auto headlamps and wipers and LED lighting carried over. Although, there should be a different mix of variants with top-spec versions getting the GT moniker and sporter cabin accents.

2022 Volkswagen Virtus engines, specifications

The Virtus will share its engines with the Taigun and Slavia. The base engine option will be the familiar 1.0-litre turbo-petrol with 115PS and 175 Nm, paired with a six-speed manual and six-speed automatic. The top GT trims will get the 1.5-litre TSI with cylinder deactivation that puts out 150PS and 250 Nm mated to a six-speed manual and seven-speed DCT.

2022 Volkswagen Virtus expected price, launch date

The Volkswagen Virtus will compete with the likes of the Skoda Slavia, Honda City, Hyundai Verna and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. We expect it to be priced between Rs 9 to 14 lakh when it launches by mid-2022.
