MG Motor posts 20 per cent retail sales growth in India
MG Motor India has registered a 20 per cent jump in retail sales for the month of January 2022, versus the same month last year, amounting to 4,306 units retailed. This also represents a massive growth of 69 per cent versus the preceding month of December 2021, which recorded a drop in sales versus November, so it can be seen as a correction of sorts. The company, as are many others, is still affected by the ongoing global semiconductor shortage and production has taken a hit.
The company sold a total of 40,273 units through 2021 and will hope to improve its retail numbers. Demand across segments, for the new Astor mid-size SUV, Hector 5-seater, ZS EV pure-electric SUV and Gloster premium SUV, continues unabated. Deliveries for the Astor, which launched in October last year, have likely been affected the most by the semiconductor shortage with the company having promised to deliver the first batch of 5,000 vehicles by the new year.
