At its international conference in South Africa, Mahindra confirmed the electrification of its complete ICE-powered vehicle portfolio. While no timetable was provided, the business stated that the Scorpio, Bolero, XUV models and the Thar are all part of the plan. All of these models will have the '.e' suffix appended to their names.

Mahindra presently sells the XUV400 in India, and cars from its BE line will be available shortly. However, the primary internal combustion engine versions will also be available with an electric drivetrain "in the future." Each model's ICE and EV variants will be marketed side by side but under separate portfolios. The EVs will be classified as Born Electric Vehicles.

At the event, Mahindra disclosed its electric powertrain details. There are three electric powertrain options in total, including a front motor and two rear motor options. The front motor by VW will produce 110PS and 135Nm of torque.

As mentioned there will be 2 rear powertrains available from Valeo and VW. The Valeo powerplant will produce 231PS and 380Nm of torque, while the more powerful one from VW will put out 285PS and 535Nm of torque.

The Scorpio.e like the Thar.e is likely to use the BYD tech, but Bolero.e will most probably use battery tech similar to Mahindra XUV400.

According to the brand, these models will eventually cater to the lifestyle shopper who is also worried about the environment. Mahindra has also disclosed that Oscar-winning music director AR Rahman would 'create and construct' sounds for the carmaker's next all-electric cars.

The next all-electric Mahindra we anticipate seeing is the XUV.e8 (electric XUV700), which is set to be on sale in the second part of 2024. All of these models will join Mahindra's BE series, which will be entirely new electric vehicles.
