In August of last year, Mahindra unveiled five new electric SUV designs. The BE.05 EV was one of them, and it has now been spotted testing for the first time - on the outskirts of Chennai. While Mahindra currently sells the XUV400, it will now concentrate on electrifying its flagship SUV by introducing a new BE (Born Electric) series, starting with the BE.05.

Mahindra BE.05 EV: Design and Dimensions

Mahindra said that the BE.05 will be over 4,300mm long and have a wheelbase of 2,775mm when it is first shown in August 2022. It will be powered by the brand's new INGLO platform and will have Level 2 ADAS technology.

The test mule resembles the concept shown over a year ago. The dramatic new LED light signature is seen up front, and the hugely flared wheel arches look to have been toned down. The rearview cameras have been replaced by standard ORVMs.

The BE.05 is an SUV coupe with a sloping roofline that integrates into the rear end. The BE.05 has upright, C-shaped taillamps and a strongly designed bumper, which, like the front aesthetic, will be carried over to production with minor design changes.

Vehicle batteries will be 60-80kWh in capacity and will be able to take a 175kW rapid charge, which will charge the battery up to 80 percent in less than 30 minutes, depending on the model. According to Mahindra, the 80kWh battery should provide a driving range of 435-450km under the WLTP cycle.

The inside of the Mahindra BE.05 has two huge touchscreens and a stylish two-spoke steering wheel. The SUV includes a rotary control dial and an aircraft-style big gear selector. The centre console elegantly divides the driver and front passenger compartment into two discrete parts. The BE.05 will have luxurious upholstery and soft-touch surfaces throughout.

Mahindra's planned electric vehicle lineup will be divided into two sub-brands: BE and XUV.e. It will commence with the latter in October 2024, with the production version of the XUV.e8. The BE.05 is scheduled to make its debut in October 2025.
