Lexus unveiled several concept electric vehicles, including the new LF-ZC, at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show. The LF-ZC concept, also known as the 'Lexus Future Zero-emission Catalyst,' is a stylish four-door sedan that previews a production-spec EV coming in 2026.

Lexus LF-ZC: Design

The LF-ZC, which stands for "Lexus Future Zero-emission Catalyst," features a low-hanging roofline that flows seamlessly from the hood to the back. The windshield is long and extends over the heads of the front occupants, providing a broad field of vision.

The idea measures 4,750mm long, 1,880mm wide, and 1,390mm height, with a 2,890mm wheelbase. The LF-ZC relies heavily on aerodynamics, with Lexus claiming an estimated drag coefficient of 0.2.

Lexus LF-ZC: Powertrain

Although the technical details of the LF-ZC's motor remain unknown, Lexus has suggested that its next-generation electric vehicles would have a range of up to 1,000 kilometers on a single charge. It is built on a new common architecture that will serve as the foundation for a wide range of future battery-electric Lexus and Toyota products.

The LF-ZC also has a one-of-a-kind all-wheel-drive system known as 'DIRECT4'. This method implies the existence of an electric motor on each axle, which would improve performance and stability.

Lexus LF-ZC: Interior

Lexus continues to innovate inside the LF-ZC with a yoke-style steering wheel and an Intelligent Cockpit with several displays for the driver and front passenger. The interior design features the usage of bamboo as a tribute to sustainability. Displays are located on either side of the yoke steering wheel, and a sleeker driver's display is incorporated into the dashboard. Another display covers the passenger side of the dashboard.

Lexus is developing a whole new electric vehicle architecture that will be paired with a software platform dubbed "Arene OS," which will handle additional safety features and facilitate over-the-air upgrades. The technology also powers the many multimedia functions available on the large infotainment screen, which has been relocated to the right for passenger usage.
