Jaguar Land Rover unveil the 2022 Range Rover
The Range Rover is quite easily one of the most British things on the market to purchase. Well, that's mainly because the Range Rover has consistently been a symbol of elegance, sophistication and timelessness, and so much so can be said about the new fifth-generation Range Rover that has been rumoured for a very long time and now finally, Jaguar Land Rover has pulled the cover of its favourite SUV offering.
Yes, of course, Land Rover wouldn't dare to miss out on the EV race which is why they have further gone on to confirm that the 2022 Range Rover will have an all-electric variant by 2024.
The Range Rover has never been a small SUV and the theme will continue as the 2022 Range Rover, based on JLR's new MLA-Flex architecture comes in at over 5 metres in length and that further extends up to 5.25 metres in the long-wheelbase version. Land Rover knew that manoeuvring an SUV as big as this would be a pain which is why rear-wheel steering comes as standard.
There doesn't seem to be plenty of new upgrades for the new car but that's only till you get up close. Closer inspection reveals 'Digital LED' headlights with DRLs, a new grille, a redesigned front bumper with a two-bar insert, reshaped 'gills' on the flanks and flush-fitting door handles. Wheels sizes range from 21-inches to as big as 23-inches.
The 2022 Range Rover will come with a selection of six and eight-cylinder engines. There will be two plug-in hybrids, P440e and P510e which are capable of producing 445PS and 517PS respectively.
The P360 and P400 come with the 3-litre 6 cylinder engine that produces 365PS and 500 Nm, and 405PS and 550 Nm of torque, respectively. The P530's 4.4-litre V8 produces 537PS and 750 Nm of torque. In the 3-litre diesel category, the D250 has 252PS and 600 Nm of torque, the D300 has 304PS and 650 Nm, and the D350 has 354PS and 700 Nm.
All powertrains are paired with an 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox and two-speed range transmission, providing a range of low-end ratios important for towing or off-road driving.
On the inside, the 2022 Range Rover features a completely new dashboard and an upgraded infotainment system. There's a 13.1-inch curved, floating touchscreen and a 13.7-inch full-digital instruments display, with a head-up display available as an option. A redesigned double-bar steering wheel, physical climate control controls, a full-size panoramic sunroof and 11.4-inch entertainment displays for the rear-seat passengers are also incorporated.
The new Range Rover's boot has also been totally redesigned, with a loading floor that can also be converted into a comfortable camping spot, complete with a cushion, backrest, and speakers.
The good news is that India will obviously not miss out on the new Range Rover, as Land Rover has already begun orders for the new Range Rover, with delivery set to begin in India in 2022. The present Range Rover, which is imported as a CBU, costs between Rs 2.10 crore and Rs 4.38 crore (ex-showroom), and the fifth-generation SUV will almost definitely cost more.
