Hyundai, Renault and Toyota among top-selling cars in June 2016
According to the latest sales figures for June 2016 released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers Association (SIAM), the Hyundai Grand i10 and the Renaut Kwid feature in the top 5 most selling cars in India. The first two slots is retained by Maruti Suzuki, as has been the usual trend. Maruti Suzuki sold 15,750 units of its entry-level hatch, the Alto and 13,492 units of Swift Dzire. However, one of most popular hathcbacks in the country Swift has lost its position to the Hyundai Grandi10. Maruti Suzuki sold 9,033 units of the Swift compared to 12,678 units of Hyundai Grand i10.
The other entry-level hatch which made it to the top-selling list is the Renault Kwid. Launched in September 2015, Renault sold 5,195 units of the Kwid in a month. This year, the French carmaker has reported a sales of 9,459 units though it clocked it best in April 2016 with a slightly higher 9,795 units. The success of Kwid also contributed in increasing Renault's market share to 3.8 per cent from 2.3 per cent.
The other popular offering from Maruti Suzuki, the WagonR clocked a sales of 11,962 units. With this, the WagonR continued its fourth spot. However, the company had sold a total of 13,221 units of its tall-boy hatch in the same month last year. The Maruti Suzuki Baleno too features in this list with a sales of 6,969 units, whereas its strongest rival the Hyundai Elite i20 registered a sales of 8,990 units.
The new-generation Innova Crysta too has been received well in the Indian market. Despite the ban on diesel vehicles displacing over 2,000cc in Delhi-NCR, Toyota reported an upward trend in sales of the Innova Crysta. Toyota sold 4,144 units in June 2015, whereas this year the company sold 8,171 units which is an increase of 49 per cent. It should also be noted that the new Innova Crysta is close to Rs 5 lakh more than the previous-gen model.
