Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) has lately been making news for all the right reasons. The latest being the Activa scooter has overtaken the Hero Splendor as India's highest selling two-wheeler for the second time in the past nine months. In a country which favors motorcycles over scooters, this shows a sign of trends changing with more and more buyers being attracted towards automatic two-wheelers.

2013 Honda Activa HETThe Activa posted sales figure of 1,79,956 units for March this year

The Activa posted sales figure of 1,77,928 units for March this year which is more than 14,000 units than the second place spot occupied by Hero MotoCorp's Splendor which managed 1,63,778 units. This is not the first time that Splendor has been pipped to the top spot by Activa, the same thing happened last year in September as well.

Speaking on the achievement, Yadvinder S. Guleria, VP, sales & marketing, HMSI said, "We are excited that Honda Activa has once again become the highest selling two-wheeler of India in March'14 after Sept'13. This clearly indicates that Activa is exponentially getting acceptance as the most preferred choice of two-wheeler for commuting in the country. We are proud to share that Activa is now strongly making inroads in Tier-2 towns and beyond. Every month lacs of Indian families are choosing Activa over any other 2Wheeler. The success of revolutionary HET in our automatic scooters is further reaffirming Honda as the technology and mileage leader in automatic scooter segment."

The rise of the Activa can largely be accounted to its ease of use and mobility around town as consumers have started preferring automatic scooters more to motorcycles which requires frequent switching of gears in urban traffic.
