Hero is all set to launch the new Xtreme 160R in India on Wednesday, 14 June, 2023. The two-wheeler manufacturer has already teased the naked motorcycle a few times via its social media handles. The test mule of the upcoming 2023 Xtreme 160R has also been spotted testing on multiple occasions. Here we tell you everything we have learned from the official teasers to spy photographs.

The Xtreme 160R takes on the likes of the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V and Bajaj N160 and NS160. These rivals of the Hero's naked bike also dominate the 160cc sporty commuter segment. The Apache RTR 160 4V, NS160, and N160 are up-to-the-minute and bring unique features, such as riding modes, dual-channel ABS. The on-sale Xtreme 160R misses out all the said equipment and features. Having said that, the new Xtreme 160R is likely to be on-par with its rivals as it is set to get a range of additions, including an updated engine.

New Hero Xtreme 160R: Design

The upcoming new Xtreme 160R is expected to feature a sporty and aggressive design compared to the outgoing model. The changes to the naked motorcycle could include a new sharper headlamp, redesigned fuel tank, and new graphics with fresh colour schemes. It could retain the same silhouette as the current Xtreme 160R. One of the teasers offered a glimpsed of the alloy wheels of the new Xtreme 160R that resembles on-sale model.

New Hero Xtreme 160R: Hardware and features

One of the most significant changes in the new Xtreme 160R in terms of hardware will be in the form of the new upside-down forks instead of telescopic unit. Hero may also offer dual-channel ABS paired with a single-disc setup at the front and back. Further, the new Xtreme 160R is also likely to get Bluetooth-enabled instrument console with turn-by-turn navigation.

New Hero Xtreme 160R: Engine, power outputs, and gearbox

Here is the crux of the upcoming Xtreme 160R. The most significant update will be to the new engine. It will use a new four-valve unit. The current model has a 163cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled two-valve engine that makes 15.2PS and 14Nm of torque. The new four-valve setup will let more air in thanks to the larger valve opening area. As a result, this setup is also likely to improve the top end performance of the motorcycle. However, it is not clear yet whether the new four-valve setup will increase its power output or torque. Mated to the engine will be a five-speed gearbox. Notably, the motor will be BS6.2 (OBD.2) compliant and E20 compatible.

New Hero Xtreme 160R: Price

To compete against the Apache RTR 160 4V and Pulsar N160/NS160, even with new additions, Hero will have to price the new Xtreme 160R competitively in order to attract new customers. The prices of the Pulsar NS160 and N160 start at Rs 1.25 lakh and Rs 1.23 lakh (both ex-showroom). Whereas, the Apache RTR 160 4V prices start from Rs 1.24 lakh (ex-showroom). However, expect a slight hike in the prices of the Hero's new Xtreme 160R. Meanwhile, the prices of the current model range between Rs 1.18 lakh and Rs 1.29 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai).
