Ford increases production of engines in Chennai plant
Ford India has increased the production capacity of engines at its Chennai plant by 80,000 units per annum. The expansion in capacity was achieved in 14 months with the current capacity pegged at 3.4 lakh units.
Ford's Chennai plant is the first in the world for the company, which has a single flexible production line for manufacturing diesel and petrol engines. 40 per cent of the engines produced here are also exported to other Asian and African markets. This facility also has a fully flexible system for dyno, hot and cold tests. Currently Ford rolls out the Endeavour, Figo, Classic and Fiesta from this unit.
"We are delighted to see this new addition to our capacity in the engine plant as we gear up to move to the next stage of growth in India and the region," said Michael Boneham, president and managing director, Ford India.
