Car sales May 2023: Maruti Suzuki, Tata, Kia, and more

Automakers in India, including Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra, Kia, Toyota, Tata, MG, and others, have recently shared their monthly sales data for May 2023. The reports reveal a mixed trend, with some brands experiencing a decline in sales while others showcasing year-on-year growth. Here's a detailed breakdown of the car sales reports for popular car brands in India:

Maruti Suzuki May 2023 Sales

Maruti Suzuki has announced that it sold 178,083 vehicles in May 2023, compared to 161,413 units in May 2022. Out of this number, the automaker sold 143,708 passenger vehicles in the domestic market and exported 26,477 units. In the same month of 2022, the company recorded overall passenger vehicle sales of 124,474 units in the domestic market.

In terms of segment-wise sales, Maruti sold 12,236 units of its Alto and S-Presso, while the sales of the Baleno, Swift, Celerio, Tour S, Ignis, Dzire, WagonR, and Ciaz stood at 71,419 units. The brand delivered 992 units of the Ciaz in the previous month. From the SUV and MPV line-up, Maruti Suzuki delivered 46,243 units of the Grand Vitara, S-Cross, XL6, Fronx, Ertiga, and Brezza in May 2023.

Kia May 2023 Sales

Kia has announced that its total sales stood at 24,770 units last month. It sold 18,766 units in the country, compared to 18,718 units in May 2022. The carmaker also exported 6,004 units. Out of this number, the Sonet emerged as the highest-selling model with 8,251 units, followed by the Seltos with 4,065 units and the Carens with 6,367 units.

MG May 2023 Sales

MG Motor India registered sales of 5,006 units in May 2023, reporting a 25 per cent year-on-year growth. In the same period last year, it had sold 4,008 units. Whereas, MG reported sales of 4,551 units in April 2023.

Mahindra May 2023 Sales

Mahindra reported a 23 per cent increase in sales at 32,883 units in May 2023, compared to 26,632 units. The carmaker sold 34,694 units in April 2023. Exports stood at 2,616 units in the previous month, compared to 2,028 units in the same period of 2022.

Tata Motors May 2023 Sales

Indian automaker Tata Motors reported a six per cent year-on-year growth with 45,878 units (including EVs) sold in May 2023, compared to the sales of 43,341 units in May last year. It also exported 106 units, compared to 51 units in the same period of 2022. In the previous month, Tata Motors delivered 5,805 electric vehicles (EVs) in the domestic and international markets, reporting a 66 per cent growth from 3,505 units sold in May 2022.

Toyota May 2023 Sales

Toyota Kirloskar Motor registered its highest-ever monthly sales of 20,410 units in May 2023, with a 110 per cent growth from 10,216 units in May 2022. The overall sales comprised 19,379 units of domestic sales and 1,031 units of exports. The carmaker also registered a 42 per cent increase in sales for the first five months of 2023, with 82,763 units compared to 58,505 units sold in the same period of the previous year.
