Spec comparison: MG Gloster Black Storm Edition vs Toyota Fortuner
MG recently launched the new Gloster Black Storm Edition in India, with prices starting at Rs 40.30 lakh (ex-showroom). Similar to the standard Gloster, the new special edition model is available in six- and seven-seat configurations, with options for both 2WD and 4WD drivetrains. Notably, the Gloster Black Storm is offered in four variants: 2WD six-seat, 2WD seven-seat, 4WD six-seat, and 4WD seven-seat. Let us compare the new all-black Gloster with the Toyota Fortuner.

In terms of dimensions, the Gloster Black Storm is considerably longer than the Fortuner in length. It is also slightly wider and taller. The MG SUV has a wheelbase of 2,950mm, while the Toyota Fortuner's wheelbase is rated at 2,745mm.

The Gloster Black Storm offers the same engine options as the standard Gloster. It produces around 11.5PS more power than the Fortuner. However, the Fortuner delivers considerably more torque compared to the Gloster Black Storm. While MG offers only an automatic transmission with the diesel engine, Toyota provides petrol and diesel units, along with a choice of manual and automatic transmissions. Notably, both models are available with 2WD and 4WD options.

The Gloster Black Storm comes equipped with LED headlamps, a panoramic sunroof, a 12-way electric driver seat with lumbar support, memory function, massage, ventilation, and heating functions. It also features an eight-way electric co-passenger seat with heating, hands-free boot opening, a fully digital driver display, auto headlamps and wipers, TPMS, ESP, TCS, hill hold and descent control, a 360-degree camera, six airbags, an electric parking brake with auto hold, heated ORVMs with memory settings, PM 2.5 filter, multi-color ambient lighting, a 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 12-speaker sound system, connected car features, and nine Level 1 autonomy features, among others.
On the other hand, the Fortuner comes with seven airbags, TCS, vehicle stability control, brake assist, hill assist control, LED headlights, powered boot opening with height lock and jam protection, ventilated front seats, an analogue instrument cluster, an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system, six speakers, connected car features, a cooled glove box, and more.
When it comes to features, the Gloster emerges as the clear winner, as MG has equipped it with a wide range of features, including ADAS. The Fortuner, on the other hand, misses out on several modern features. On the flip side, the Fortuner is a full-blown off-roader with a capability to go anywhere.

Since the Gloster Black Storm is a special edition model, its prices command a higher premium over the standard model. However, the top-spec Fortuner GR S or Legender are significantly more expensive than the Gloster Black Storm.
