Car sales January 2021: Honda Cars India doubles numbers over last year

Honda Cars India has sold 11,319 units domestically in January 2021. This is a significant 114 per cent hike in sales over the corresponding period last year when the Japanese carmaker sold 5,299 units. The firm has significantly expanded its export numbers too. It exported 1,233 units last month, against 182 units last year.

Honda recently consolidated its position in India, ending production at the Greater Noida facility and discontinuing sales laggards like the Honda Civic and the CR-V. The company's manufacturing operations now run entirely out of its Tapukara facility. This plant already manufacturers Honda's sub-four-metre offerings, the Amaze, Jazz and WR-V, and now has the City added to its roster.

The new City and the Amaze have spurred growth for Honda. The City has also ramped up export for Honda India. Rajesh Goel, senior VP for marketing and sales at Honda Cars India said, "HCIL sales continue to be robust and first month sales in 2021 have been very positive. The strong demand for our popular sedans Amaze and City in fact exceeded the supply last month and we seem to be heading towards sustainable market recovery except for a few challenges. We have also started Honda City exports recently to new left-hand drive markets which gave a fillip to our export volumes. With the COVID Vaccination drive currently in progress, we expect it to propel positivity in the market, resulting in a steady demand going forward."
