Best selling cars for the month of October 2021, Maruti Suzuki take most places

The semiconductors shortage is affecting the automobile every passing month. Overall car sales fell by more than 20 percent last month compared to October of 2020. Although, this still did not stop Maruti Suzuki from dominating the sales once again as they racked up most of the top-selling places. Here's a list of the top 5 best selling cars for October 2021.

5) Hyundai Venue

The only Hyundai to make it to the top 5 best selling list is the Hyundai Venue. In fact, the Hyundai Venue is also the only SUV to make it to this list. Hyundai registered a sale of 10,554 units of its compact SUV for the month of October. Compared to October last year, The Hyundai Venue saw a massive 20 percent increase in its demand. Prices for the Hyundai Venue start at Rs 6.99 lakh (ex-showroom)

The Hyundai Venue comes with a choice between two petrol and one diesel engine. The Kappa T-GDI 1.0-litre turbo three-cylinder motor makes 120PS and 172Nm and can be specced with an iMT, seven-speed dual-clutch automatic or a six-speed manual. The other petrol motor is the 1.2-litre petrol with 83PS and 116Nm, as seen on various Hyundai cars in India. The single diesel option is the 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel motor which puts out 100PS and 240Nm, paired with a six-speed manual.

4) Maruti Suzuki WagonR

The top 4 slots in this best selling list have all been secured by Maruti Suzuki. The Maruti Suzuki WagonR comes in as the fourth most sold car of October 2021 with 12,335 registered sales. This is great news for Maruti Suzuki as they sold only 7,632 units of the WagonR in September 2021.

A 1.0-litre and a 1.2-litre petrol engine are available in the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R. The former generates 68PS and 90Nm of torque, while the latter generates 83PS and 113Nm. A five-speed manual transmission and an automatic manual transmission are available. Customers can also choose a CNG model. The Maruti Suzuki WagonR starts at Rs 4.93 lakh (ex-showroom)

3) Maruti Suzuki Ertiga

The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is quite easily one of the family favourite cars in India. The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga MPV saw a 67 percent increase in sales for October 2021, with 12,923 units sold compared to 7,748 in the same period the previous year.

The Ertiga uses a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine used in the Ertiga. The engine produces 105PS at 6,000 rpm and 138 Nm of peak torque at 4,400 rpm. It offers a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic transmission. The MPV can also be had in the CNG option.

The interiors of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga get a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a flat-bottom steering wheel, steering-mounted controls, automatic climate control, faux wooden inserts, height-adjustable driver seat, an engine start-stop button, electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs, rear defogger and keyless entry. Prices start at Rs 7.96 lakh.

2) Maruti Suzuki Baleno

Despite a 29 percent drop in sales in October 2021, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno is the country's second most sold car. In October 2021, Maruti Suzuki sold 15,573 Balenos, compared to 21,971 in the same period the previous year.

The highlights of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno include a new front bumper, LED headlamps, new fog lights, new alloy wheels, LED taillights, a black and blue interior theme, seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Maruti's SmartPlay Studio app, steering-mounted controls, engine start-stop button, automatic climate control and a height-adjustable driver seat. It's pretty clear to see why the Baleno tops the charts now.

The Maruti Suzuki Baleno is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine with two options, normal and dual-jet. The former generates 83PS and 113 Nm of torque, while the latter generates 90PS and 113Nm of torque thanks to the brand's clever hybrid technology. A five-speed manual transmission and a CVT transmission are available for these engines. Prices for the Baleno start at Rs 5.99 lakh.

1) Maruti Suzuki Alto

A small city car by the name of Maruti Suzuki Alto has been in the market for a very long time. It may be a very small vehicle but that doesn't stop its sales from topping this list. Maruti Suzuki has sold 17,389 Maruti Suzuki Alto units in October 2021. A 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, reverse parking sensors, front and rear bottle holder, power windows, remote keyless entry and front dual airbags are the list of features that are available on the Alto.

The Maruti Suzuki Alto is powered by a 0.8-litre petrol engine that generates 48PS and 69 Nm of torque in its petrol variant. The same motor produces 40PS and 60Nm of torque when converted to CNG mode. The Alto is the cheapest vehicle on this list with a starting price of Rs 3.15 lakh.
