All-New Toyota Land Cruiser Prado breaks cover with hybrid system

Toyota unveiled the new 2024 Land Cruiser Prado today, a rebirth that was scarcely a surprise given the ongoing cachet this marque enjoys throughout the world. Long recognized for its boxy design, robustness, and off-road capabilities, it was progressively changed into a high-priced, luxury seven-passenger SUV, losing much of its trademark appearance and some of its ruggedness in the process.

All-New Toyota Land Cruiser Prado: Design

The new Cruiser is built on a variation of Toyota's new worldwide TGNA-F truck platform, a modular workhorse that underlies Tundras, Sequoias, and even the new Tacoma. The classic style is matched with boxy and upright proportions, which are clearly inspired by the current Lexus GX. The new LC will be available in a variety of trim levels, with 18-inch wheels and all-weather tyres as standard, but customers will have the option to upgrade to 20-inch wheels.

The Toyota Land Cruiser 2024, which will be on sale in the spring of 2024, will be offered in three trim levels to begin with: First Edition, 1958, and Land Cruiser. The new Land Cruiser for America is 4,920 mm long, 2,139 mm wide, and 1,859 mm tall, with a wheelbase length of 2,850 mm and 221 mm ground clearance.

Each trim has a distinct aesthetic appeal, with the base LC 1958 sporting a classic grille, the mid-spec LC sporting rectangular headlights like the FJ62, and the top-end variation differing noticeably from one another. Buyers may also choose for the 2024 Land Cruiser First Edition, which is limited to 5,000 units and has bigger wheels and other off-road-ready features.

All-New Toyota Land Cruiser Prado: Powertrain and Suspension

The same 2.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder hybrid iForce Max powerplant and eight-speed gearbox that will power the upper end of the Tacoma model range, most notably the TRD Pro, will power all 2024 Land Cruisers. This powerplant produces 326PS and 630 Nm of torque. The 1.87-kWh nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) battery in the hybrid system rests atop the axle, where a third row would be.

The 2024 Land Cruiser has standard four-wheel drive as well as an optional Multi-Terrain Select system that adapts the off-road powertrain for different conditions and rides on a redesigned double-wishbone, twin-tube front suspension and a multi-link coil spring rear suspension. Mud, Dirt, and Sand modes are available, as are 4WD-High and 4WD-Low modes enabled by the conventional two-speed transfer case. If more off-road traction is required, the centre and rear differentials can be locked.

All-New Toyota Land Cruiser Prado: Interior

Every Land Cruiser seats five people, and the base model has fabric seats. The more refined among you would probably choose the synthetic SofTex upholstery of the intermediate trim or the full-on leather of the First Edition. A base 8-inch display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is included, while higher grades include a great, huge, 12.3-inch screen and even a 14-speaker JBL audio system.
