2024 Porsche Taycan facelift travels 587km on a full charge
Porsche has set the stage for the global debut of its heavily updated all-electric Taycan Initial. Before its unveiling in the coming days, the marque has revealed that its initial test drives with the refreshed Taycan between Los Angeles and San Diego delivered a real-world driving range of up to 587km (365 miles). Although the official driving range figures from WLTP, EPA, or other agencies are yet to be disclosed. That being said, this test took place on Interstate Highway 405 and 5 in the US. Meanwhile, the upcoming Taycan facelift will also feature faster charging capability, resulting in shorter charging times.
In terms of powertrain, the updated Taycan, given its increased range, will likely come equipped with a larger battery pack to offer longer range over its outgoing predecessor. Not only that, the nearly pre-production model being tested also showcased improved efficiency. The all-electric sports cars covered up to 587 kilometres on one battery charge on public roads, says Porsche.
The brand said that this range test was completed under everyday conditions and at a designated speed of 120kmph or 75mph, which is permitted on interstates. It is to be noted that the test cars featured the larger Performance Battery Plus.
The test model of the Taycan were charged the Electrify America Charger in Torrance/Los Angeles where it the updated DC fast charging output peaked at over 300kW. Hence, it was able to charge from 10 to 80 per cent in well under 20 minutes. Porsche says that the charging performance, charging time, and the time it takes to start charging were also improved in the test.
The Taycan prototype recently smashed Tesla's Nürburgring EV lap timing by 17.681 seconds. It completed the lap in a blistering 7 minute and 7.55 seconds, which was only two seconds slower than the 1,888PS Rimac.
